The Ogoni people
Although they were relatively spared by the slave trade, because of their relative isolation, and then resisted English colonization from 1901 until 1914, the Ogoni, who live in southern Nigeria in the Port Harcourt region, were unable to resist oil greed: Killed (2,000 dead in the 1990s) or displaced by the Nigerian army, many survivors went into exile.
