The Kwele Mask

The main function of the Kwele mask was to animate the village in order to activate the beneficial forces inhabiting the Bwété. Outside of ceremonial periods, Kwele masks were rarely worn; they most often remained hung in the houses to protect against evil spirits and/or stimulate beneficial forces.

This mask is perfectly in line with the canons of Kwele aesthetics with its heart shape and almond-shaped eyes.
