Ebony wood

The ebony tree grows in the tropical regions of Africa and Asia and produces a wood with a color ranging from dark brown to black, generally very homogeneous; ebony is an oily wood with a very fine grain that provides, to the touch, a sensation of great softness.

Ebony is one of the heaviest and densest woods that exist (it does not float and sinks directly); it is almost rot-proof.

These qualities have made it a precious wood but very difficult to work.
